BUTTER PRICES IN AUSTRALIA

N.Z. Dairy Board View (New Zealand Press Association; WELLINGTON, March 23. While the New Zealand dairy industry has every sympathy for Australian dairy farmers in their claim to be paid their cost of production, New Zealand considers it quite wrong that assistance should be given in such a way as to lead to “very high” butter prices in Australia.

This point was made by t the chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Board (Mr A. Linton) tonight when commenting on an article on Australian dumping published in the Melbourne “Herald.” • “The assessment of our viewpoint is almost uncannily accurate,” said Mr Linton. “I think everyone closely connected with industry affairs here would agree with the conclusion that adoption of the deficiency payments system is about the only way in which Australia can continue heavy subsidisation of her dairy industry and over a period remain clear of the charge of dumping her butter on the London market.”
