United States’ Gift For Nuclear Research

WELLINGTON, March 23. The United States will provide New Zealand Institutions with nuclear research equipment valued at £II»,MS under an agreement signed in Wellington today. The Prime Minister (Mr Nash) and the United States Ambassador (Mr Francis Russell) signed the agreement in an exchange o f notes. Mr Nash said in a statement issued later that the equipment would be installed in the universities of Auckland and Canterbury and the Institute of Nuclear Sciences. He said the equipment would make a valuable contribution to New Zealand’s nuclear science programme in teaching and research. “I have expressed to the American authorities the Government’s appreciation of their splendid offer," Mr Nash said. "The conclusion of the agreement today gives further evidence of the great generosity of the United States in making available to other countries the fruits

Sl f? ing ot the agreement were the Minister in charge of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (Mr Holloway), the head of the D.S.I.R. (Dr. W. M. Hamilton), the First Secretary at the United States Embassy (Mr L. Crutcher), and the Deputy Secretary of External Affairs (Mr F- M. Comer).
