New Prince Has Four Names

(NJ!. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, March 23. The new Prince, the Queen’s third child, has four names Andrew Albert Christian Edward. He will be known as Prince Andrew, the name of Scotland’s patron saint The announcement of the names was made from Buckingham Palace yesterday after the registrar at Caxton Hall, Mr William Prince, had gone to the palace to register the birth.

The baby’s name Andrew was after Prihce Philip's father, Prince Andrew of Greece, Reuter said. Albert was after the Queen’s father, King George VI. Christian was after the baby’s great-great-grandfather, King Christian the ninth of Denmark, and Edward was after his maternal great-great-grandfather, King Edward VII.

It is more than 500 years since there was a Prince Andrew in a British Royal family. The last one was a grandson of Robert II of Scotland.

The christening date has not yet been announced. British newspapers today approved the names selected.

The “Manchester Guardian” said that “it is no bad thing to share a name with' Tolstoy’s Prince Andrew—in *War and Peace’—not royal but one of the most attractive characters in literature.”

The “Daily Mail” said that “in naming their children, the Queen and Prince Philip have broken right away from Hanoverian convention. But they are hll good names—and fine children.” The “Scotsman” said: “Even the traditionalists who might prefer a procession of Edwards and Georges in the Royal Family are unlikely to complain, since the new name is one so honoured and so ancient.”
