5000gns Refused By Owner-Breeder (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) • SYDNEY, March 23. An owner-breeder, Mr Ron Barr has refused 5000gns for the two-year-old. Southport, which is odds-on favourite to win today’s first two-year-old Maiden Handicap (six furlongs) at Canterbury. It was the second offer Mr Barr had rejected in the last fortnight t Mr Barr last evening made a surprise change of jockeys for Southport when he engaged T. Hill to replace the apprentice, K. Smith.

Smith had ridden Southport in most of his fast track wosfc at Hawkesbury and also in his only two races at Warwick Farm and Canterbury. Mr Barr said he did not intend selling Southport because the colt is the best progeny sired by his scallion. Port Vista, since the champion sprinter, Gay Vista. Southport has been responsible fbr outstanding track trials at Hawkesbury where he is trained by R. A. Dickerson.
