MAN KILLED; FOUR HURT
Car Crashes Into Power Pole (New Zealand Press Association)
GISBORNE, March 13. The driver was. killed and four passengers sent to hospital with injuries when their car ran off the road and crashed into a power pole on the back Ormond road near Gisborne about 6 p.m. today. Pending notification of the relatives, the police would not reveal . the name of the dead man, who is married and belongs to Gisborne.
Those injured and in hospital are Mrs Flora Watts, aged 33, of Gisborne, who is suffering from a fractured skull, condition serious; Donald Neil Watson, aged 36, a seaman, of Scotland, lacerated face, injured right leg, condition fair; Howard Brinkley, aged 35, a seaman, of South Africa, severely lacerated face, and chest injuries, condition fair; Allan Iddon, aged 36, a seaman, of England, concussion, condition fair.
Another man, Michael McQuillan, of Gisborne, who suffered light cuts on the face was discharged after treatment. The seamen belong to the Kuaka.
CAR ROLLS DOWN BANK Evans Pass Road Accident
A man and his wife were injured when their car skidded on the Evans Pass road and rolled about 300 ft down a bank late on Saturday afternoon. They are Warren James Cahill, who suffered minor leg and other injuries, and Georgina Cahill, who suffered head and multiple injuries and shock. They live at 35 Mcßeath avenue, Halswell, Mr and Mrs Cahill were taken by a St. John ambulance to the Christchurch Hospital, and Mrs Cahill was admitted. Her condition was reported last evening as fairly satisfactory. Her husband was treated at the casualty department and sent home.
