Wellington Beats Auckland

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 13. Wellington beat Auckland 4-1 at softball on Saturday. G. Ward and P. Priddy had the Auckland batters in trouble from the start. The pitcher. Ward, threw a lot of balls that seemed to float away from the plate, and had the batters reaching for them. He took six strike-outs, walked two, and conceded four hits. P. Priddy, behind the plate, caught very soundly and hit a terrific home run to left-field as well as a good three-bagger. Probably the start of the Wellington team was W. Henderson at second base. His diving catch of a fullblooded drive from Preston was a highlight of the game, and his homerun rounded off a fine performance.
