The British-bred Amerigo won the 119,900 dollars San Juan Capistrano Handicap at Santa Anita today. Starting, favourite. at even money in a field of 17, Amerigo withstood a strong challenge from King O’Turf to win by a head. He earned 73,000 dollars.
He was ridden by Willie Hartack and carried top-weight of Bst 101 b.
It was the five-year-old’s second biS win in a month. He took the 75,000 dollar Hialeah Gold Cup in Florida on February 13 before being flown to California. The time for the mile and three-quarters wm 3mln «
