War Pensions

Sir, —What is the position regarding the war veteran’s allowance? Are we returned men still to be subject to the means test? To me. it seems manifestly unfair that any returned man, particularly 1914-18 yintage, who have, in all probability suffered in health with advancing years but still able to work, should not at least be placed on an equal footing with those on universal superannuation, particularly if any qualifying for the latter did not see war service. In other words, why not abolish the means test in their case?—Yours, etc., 1914-1918. March 10, 1960.
