LOCAL BODY AFFAIRS
Woman Elected To Executive
(New Zeaiana Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 4.
Local government “housekeeping” will now, for the first time, have a woman’s voice in its affairs with the election of the Mayor of Timaru, Mrs Muriel Ernesta Hilton, to the executive committee of the Municipal Association of New Zealand, which has just conducted its conference in Wellington.
Mrs Hilton, who said she was enjoying her Mayoral duties very much, would like to see more women in local body affairs. Women in New Zealand were a little backward in this respect, she said. They were qualified and had the ability to serve. She had found since being Mayor that she got into the heart of community activities and obtained a good insight into how things “tick."
