Prices Mainly Steady

The improvement In prices recorded on the first day of ths Dunedin wool sale on W*dn*aflay was generally maintained with the second day’s offering today. Merino wools showed a slight easing on Wednesday’s prices, but generally fine crossbred and strong halfbred prices showed an improvement. The easing of the Merino prices continued in the afternoon, but there was more competition for other types. On Wednesday Merino and half, bred prices advanced from 2} per cent, to 5 per cent, on the prices at Christchurch in February. There was evidence of dust in wools offered on the first day and again it could be seen in today’s offerings. Some of the woo] showed the effects of the drought conditions in Central and North Otago, and some from the latter area was tender in the staple. The official report states that a total of 25,730 bales was offered to a full bench of buyers. Comp*, tition was well spread. Continental buyers again operated freely •while local mills competed for the finer and choicer lines of fleece wools. Compared with the first day fine and medium halfbreds were very firm. Prices for strong and extra fine crossbreds were in sellers’ favour while other croaibreds were barely firm. Merinos and quarter breds were irregular and up to 2j per cent easier.
