Passing through Christchurch from Winton on his way to attend a wedding at Wellington, the former Canterbury and University fiveeighths, P. A. Hutchinson, heard of the game that had been arranged for Canterbury’s All Black trial players on Thursday evening, and, as there was the possibility of a shortage of players, offered to play. During the first half he showed he had lost none of his old form, initiating several breaks and backing up well. At 6.10 pan., the end of the first half, he regretfully told the referee (Mr O. McDowell) he would have to leave. “I have a boat to catch,” he said.
