MASTER PRINTERS’ CONFERENCE

Remit Seeks Sales Tax Abolition. The abolition of sales tax on all items of printing and stationery and the elimination of anomalies which exist in the administration of sales tax, are the subjects of remits to be presented to the annual conference of the New Zealand Master Printers’ Federation at Napier from March 11 to 14. More than 70 master printers have registered for the conference. Addresses will be given by Mr R. E. Owen, the Government Printer, and Mr H. L. Bockett, secretary of the Department of Labour. Remits from Auckland aim at increasing the avenues of employment for apprentices in the industry and raising the status of apprentices and journeymen. Other important questions on the conference agenda relate to paper supply, and the proposed production of printing and writing papers in New Zealand, technical education, management education within the industry, taxation and the prevention of accidents through machinery guards.
