Yachting 130-MILE RACE

Wellington Event Draws Nine Entries (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 25. Nine yachts, possibly 10, are expected to sail on Saturday morning in the longest ocean race held by the Port Nicholson Yacht Club for many years—l3o miles from Wellington Harbour, round Kapiti Island and return. Starting from 1 a.m. they aim to catch the tide at 3 a.m. at Karori Rock, and sail through the most dangerous part of the course—-the off-lying rocks and small islands of Kapiti—in daylight. The course of 130 miles In a straight line—something rarely achieved in yachting—will take the fastest competitors 20 hours and more in ideal conditions.
