RETAIL STORES COMPETITION
Floral Awards Presented High street shops have won all the Floral Festival Week window-dressing awards. The awards were presented at a Christchurch Junior Chamber luncheon yesterday. The chamber had organised the competition. The chamber’s cup for the city-wide competition was awarded to the United Friendly Society, with Sedley Wells. Ltd., and Knight and Baker, Ltd., in second and third places. The judges (Messrs B. Bunt and C. Crawford) highly commended the display of F. E. Beeby, of 452 A, Ferry road. The judges commented that there were some “extremely fine” displays seen, but many had not qualified for judging under the conditions of the award which required displays to be equally balanced with floral and advertising appeal. The Marsh Cup for the best dressed window in High street was also won by the U.F.S., with the placings the same as for the Junior Chamber trophy. The judges commented that entries had been “excellent” and added that a lot of the retail stores had concentrated more on interior decoration than on window display.
