ELECTRA HIT BY TRUCK
Tasman Flights Rearranged A truck at Mascot airport, Sydney, yesterday hit and holed a T.E.A.L. Electra waiting on the tarmac to fly to Auckland. Because of this mishap 25 passengers bound from Sydney for Christchurch were four hours late getting to Harewood. The Auckland-bound Electra was withdrawn for repairs. Another Electra at Mascot, bound for Christchurch, was used to carry all the New Zealandbound passengers, and the Syd-ney-Christchurch flight was routed through Auckland. At Auckland last night, T.E.A.L. made available to N.A.C. vacant passenger space on the Electra and it carried 25 additional passengers from Auckland to Christchurch. The Electra which should have arrived at Harewood at 6.30 p.m. eventually arrived at 10.36 p.m. It took an hour for turn-round procedure and left for Melbourne at 11.45 p.m. Today’s flights are also affected. The 6.30 p.m. flight from Melbourne is not expected to arrive until 9.30 p.m. Normally the plane leaves again for Sydney by 8 p.m., tonight it will not leave until 11 p.m. It is expected that tomorrow flights will be back to normal.
