COLD WEATHER TRAINING FOR ROYAL MARINES.—Regular Marine commandos spend three weeks at a time at the base at Gienmore Lodge, near Aviemore, in the Cairngorms, Scotland, receiving ski instruction, learning to fight in snow and ice, and spending 12 nights sleeping in the open with only tents or snow holes for protection. TOP: A three-man patrol operating in the snow-covered Cairngorms. BOTTOM: A lieutenant hands down a weapon to a sergeant as he settles himself in a snowhole that is his only protection against the weather.
