Grout Dismisses Eight In limings
(N.Z Press Association—Copyright) BRISBANE, Feb. 15. Australian and Queensland wicketkeeper W. Grout today set a new first-class wicket-keeping record when he dismissed eighf Western Australian batsmen in the first innings of their Sheffield Shield match against Queensland at Brisbane. Western Australia was all out for 295, 122 behind Queensland's first innings of 417 in spite of a stubborn 105 by the captain, K. Meulemann. Grout’s eight wickets in one innings beats the previous record of seven wickets held jointly by Australian wicketkeepers D. Tallon and R. Saggers, and the English wicketkeepers, E. J. Smith. W. Ferrlmond, W. F. Price, and H. Yarnold. Western Australia's failure to reach Queensland's first Inning's total ended its Sheffield Shield hopes for the season, as it needed full points from this match to keep alive its chance of edging New South Wales out of position.
