THE ANZAC MEMORIAL AT PORT SAID is to be moved to Perth, Western Australia. The photograph on the left was taken in December, 1956, when the statue was toppled from its pedestal by Egyptians after the withdrawal of the British and French forces from the Suez Canal zone. The other photograph, taken recently, shows workmen dismantling the base of the monument in readiness for its dispatch to Australia. The memorial, which was unveiled in Port Said in 1934, will be restored and reassembled in Perth in accordance with a decision of the Governments of Australia and New Zealand. The Egyptian authorities had earlier agreed to restore the monument.
