WATER PRESSURE MAY VARY
Connecting New Main Under Overbridge
Water supplies north of Moorhouse avenue may be subject to variations in pressure during the next three days while the new main under the Colombo street overbridge is put into commission. A service duct for all such services was built earlier and the new main is installed. Today, tomorrow. and Thursday, the new connexions will be made and thereafter there will be no interruption of water supplies during the construction of the overbridge. This main is the chief link between the reservoirs in the south and the water reticulation system in the north The City Engineer (Mr E. Somers) said yesterday that it was expected that there would be variations in pressure from place to place and from time to time during the changeover. In the unlikely event of a power failure, the amount of water from stand-by pumps in the north would be limited but sufficient for domestic purposes. Mr Somers said If a power failure did occur it would be necessary for consumers in the north to restrict their use of water so that supplies would be available for possible fire fighting.
