PREPARATIONS FOR ELECTION

Verification Of Addresses

Preparations for the general election in November will begin soon in Christchurch when electoral officers send out notices to the 125,000 registered electors in the Canterbury electoral area to verify addresses. No definite date had been set for the task, said the deputy registrar of electors (Mr T. Ruane) yesterday, but as the main electoral roll was normally completed in July the notices would be going out soon. The task would not be as big as the preparation of the 1957 electoral rolls. Then the first purge of the rolls for 30 years was undertaken. A purge would not be carried out this time but after the census in 1961, said Mr Ruane.
