N.Z.-Japanese Venture

The Nissho Trading Company, a leading trading firm in Japan, announced today that it would establish a joint Japanese-New Zealand trading firm in Wellington shortly, subject to formal approval by the Japanese Government. The new firm will be capitalised at £lO,OOO, to be equally shared between Nissho and Bing, Harris and Company, Ltd., a New Zealand firm. The project to set up the firm has been approved by the Japanese Finance Ministry. The new firm will be named the Union Trading Company of New Zealand, Ltd. Nissho claimed this would be the first Japanese-New Zealand joint venture specialising in trade. The company said the business of the new firm would cover imports of Japanese goods, including pottery, table wares, electric cables and wires, steel products, and textiles and exports to Japan of New Zealand timber, raw wool and meat. The new firm is also planning to handle trade among third countries.
