Christchurch Man In Second Place
I From the London Lorrespondeni ol ‘The Press”! LONDON, January 25. As a result of his showing in the Royal Air Force ski championships at Zermatt, Switzerland, Flying Officer E. J. Ferrier, aged 21, of Heaton street, Christchurch, and a former member of the Canterbury Winter Sports Club, appears to be certain to represent the Royal Air Force in the interservices ski championships at the end of January. Flying Officer Ferrier, who is a second pilot with No. 617 (Vulcan) Squadron (the “Dam Busters”) at Scampton, Lincolnshire, learned to ski on Coronet Peak, represented the Royal Air Force last season, and this season came second to the champion, Flight Lieutenant N. Galpin. Continental ski-ing holidays were popular this winter among Royal New Zealand Air Force cadets and apprentices training in this country. Three flight cadets at Cranwell were in the first party to fly to Zermatt this month under the Royal Air Force Ski and Winter Sports Association holiday scheme. They are P. G.
