Tulloch arrived in Melbourne today for the first time for almost two years looking fit for what will be the greatest test of his brilliant career. The New Zealand-bred champion will take his first big step on the comeback trial tomorrow in an exhibition gallop with the Sydney three-year-old Noholme and the New Zealand-bred Lord at Moonee Valley. Melbourne racing writers expect Tulloch to run well but are reserving their opinion whether the champion will return to his former greatness until he had had a race. After riding Tulloch in a strong canter over seven furlongs at Flemington today, the veteran jockey, Les Whittle, predicted that Tulloch would regain his old form. “Tulloch has never been so keen to work. I bad to keep talking to him to get him to slow down,” he said. “He wanted to take hold of the bit and make the work a real gallop.”
