FIRST NIGHT AT EPSOM

Southern Horses May Do Well

South Island stables are well represented at the Auckland Trotting Club's February meeting which will open at Alexandra Park tonight. There are no southern horses in the principal race and first leg of the double, the Otahuhu Handicap, but Direct Rhythm, from Templeton, and the South-land-trained Autumn Folly are expected to be the hardest for Wexford Chief to beat in the Mount Albert Handicap No. 2, the second leg of the double. The Addington-trained Omega will create a southern interest in the Rangitoto Handicap and Frown is expected to improve a very good record for his Oamaru trainer, I. S. Sutherland, in the Railway Handicap. Sutherland also has Vinola’s Luck engaged in that race. Dalgelia in the February Handicap and First Night in the Mount Albert Handicap No. 1. One of the features of the meeting will be the reappearance of the 1957 New Zealand Cup winner, Lookaway, in the Papakura Handicap. Lookaway, which has been away from racing since last August, will start from the back mark of 42 yards. Although showers are forecast in the district today the track is in excellent order at present.
