If Waimairi succeeds in producing a champion women’s surf team then it will probably be due to the efforts of Miss Loretta Leeming. Miss Leeming is one of the very few women surf instructors in this country and the only one in Canterbury. A qualified surfer, she has suffered lack of competition through insufficient qualified women members, and is now endeavouring to remedy this by training the girls herself.

The former world heavyweight boxing champion, Joe Louis, has had a chequered career since his retirement from the ring, but he has a new job now, and it is reported that he is doing exceptionally well in it.
