THREAT OF STRIKE
Emergency May Re Declared
(Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 12. A Royal proclamation declaring a state of emergency throughout Britain will be made on Sunday if the threatened rail strike is not called off, the “Daily Mail” reported today. The Queen has received daily advice on the negotiations and efforts to stop the strike. Britain should know today whether it is to be paralysed by the strike, threatened for Monday, Reuter reported. Last minute “peace” talks are to be held this morning. Noon today has been named by the strike organisers as the deadline by which time they must be given an offer of hard cash if the strike is to be called off. Mr Sidney Greene, general secretary of the National Union of Railwaymen, which is organising the strike, named the “zero hour” after meeting the Government’s chief industrial “peace-maker,” Mr Peter St. John Wilson, last night. Meanwhile, the nation is busy organising its plan of campaign to keep the traffic moving from midnight on Sunday.
