SYDNEY, January 25. Australian Jockey Club officials are expecting to receive a record number of entries for both the Doncaster Handicap and Sydney Cup when nominations close today. An official said the club expected to receive entries from New Zealand as well as most states in Australia.

He said the club was confident that every one of the horses invited to run in the Centenary Invitation Stakes on April 9 would also be entered either for the Doncaster or the Sydney Cup. The £6OOO Doncaster Handicap (one mile) will be run at Randwick on April 16. The £12,500 Sydney Cup (two miles) will be run on Monday, April 18.

The A.J.C. will hold the four day autumn meeting to celebrate the club’s centenary. An A.J.C. official. said the club expected to receive a large number of entries from New Zealand. Lord Sasanof, which won the Gloaming Stakes (one mile and a half) at Trentham on Saturday, already has been entered for the A.J.C. Doncaster Handicap. The record holders Jalna and ’ Oreka also are expected to be entered.

The trainer Harold Sherd has entered Tene San for both the Doncaster Handicap and the Sydney Cup. The trainer Tom Smith said that he would enter 12 horses for the Doncaster and 11 for the Sydney Cup. Smith said he would enter both Tulloch and Travel Boy for the Sydney Cup.

His other entries will include Foxmara, which was an unlucky second »to On Line in this race last year, as well as the Queensland champion Grand Garry.

Jack Green said he would not enter Skyline for any of the autumn races. Green said that tentative plans have been made to send Skyline to New Zealand this week to continue his spell. Green said that at this stage Skyline was unlikely to resume racing until next spring.
