COOK STRAIT FERRY
Tenders May Be Called Soon
(New Zealana Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 20. An English firm of consultant naval architects has accepted the work of developing the preliminary plans and specifications for the Cook Strait rail-road ferry to a stage where early worldwide tenders can be called. This was announced today by the Minister of Railways (Mr Moohan).
He said the basic plans and specifications were sent from New Zealand by air just before Christmas.
The firm, Messrs Burness, Corlett and Partners Ltd., of Basingstoke, started detailed planning earlier this month and it is expected the plans and documents required to invite tenders of shipbuilders will be ready by the end of next month.
