ALUMINIUM MILL
Site Purchased Near Auckland
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 19. Subject to the consent of the Minister of Lands (Mr Skinner) and the Manukau County Council, the Northern Aluminium Company, Ltd., of England, will build its £2 million aluminium fabricating mill on a 30-acre site in Station road, Wiri, 14 miles south of Auckland.
The site is part of a 130-acre dairy farm owned by Mr L. W. Davis and lies between the southern motorway and the Main Trunk railway. Negotiations between the company and Mr Davis have been completed and the agreement of sale of the 30 acres will be signed by both parties when the consent of the Minister and the council has been obtained. No difficulty is expected to securing the necessary consent.
The general manager of the company in New Zealand (Mr E. A. Ashley) said today that tenders for the building of the mill and the separate office block had been called and he hoped that work would begin very soon. The mill will provide employment for about 250 people and is expected to begin production early next year. Round-the-clock operation will yield an annual output of 5000 tons and a turnover of £1.5 million.
