U.S. ARMS SPENDING

Criticism Of Budget

LONDON, January 19. A Soviet broadcast today described President Eisenhower's new Budget as a “disappointment" since it made no cut in military allocations.

“This comes at a time when the Soviet Union once again slashes its military spending,” said Moscow Radio. The radio claimed the Budget showed no tendency to “clear the world’s climate.

“On the contrary, it shows that certain cold war interests are trying to freeze the war still colder and to maintain the high level of arms racing.

“You can hardly expect to solve the disarmament problem by racing for more arms and you can’t ensure peaceful coexistence with power politics.

“What is needed is concrete deeds and reducing armaments, armed forces and military spending as the Soviet Union has done,” the radio said. “That is what millions of people the world over expect from the Western Powers.”

Return to Palace.— The Queen left her home at Sandringham. Norfolk, today to return to Buckingham Palace where she expects her third child to be born within the next few weeks.—London. January 18.
