SOUTH CANTERBURY WHEAT

Some Mildew In Crops Noted Patches of wheat crops in South Canterbury where there had been a higher rainfall and humid conditions were showing some signs of mildew, Mr F. J. Henshaw, of Waimate, chairman of the Dominion agriculture produce section of Federated Farmers, said this week. The extent of the mildew was difficult to estimate at this stage The crops affected were not ripening a golden colour but were turning” a brownish colour. The harvest was probably two or three weeks away but indications were that the mildew would result in lower yields. In his opinion, locally, the Aotea wheat was more affected than the Arawa, Mr Henshaw Said.
