Authority Over Lake

(New Zealand Press Association) ROTORUA, January 15. Agreement to take full control of a lake in the Rotorua district as a harbour authority was reached at a meeting of the Rotorua’ Borough and County Councils today. Notification will be sent to the Marine and Internal Affairs Departments. In the discussion, the County Clerk (Mr N. W. McCormick) told of the position which had arisen on Lake Rotoiti where it was reported a private individual was building a wharf. The piles were on the bottom of the lake which belonged to the Lands Department. The decking was over the water which was under the Marine Department with the Internal Affairs Department as agent. Till the wharf touched the foreshore, the county had no control. The Mayor (Mr A. M. Linton) said the borough was perfectly happy that the county should control the lakes. *7
