TUNKU LEAVES FOR N.Z.

(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) KUALA LUMPUR, January 12. Tunku Abdul Rahman, Prime Minister of Malaya, left by air today for an official visit to New Zealand. He told reporters at the airfield that the main purpose of his trip was to strengthen existing bonds between New Zealand and Malaya. He said: “We _ are no strangers to one another.” He said no major issues were to be taken up between the two Governments but he would discuss some Colombo Plan matters with the New Zealand Prime Minister (Mr Nash). The Tunku said he would discuss teaching Malay in New Zealand schools instead of such languages as Latin. The Tunku said he was anxious to see something of Maori life. “The Maori people have a common heritage with Malays,” he said.
