Roller Skating BRITISH SKATERS IN S.I.
Guests At National Championships
(New Zealand Press Association) BLENHEIM, January 13. The touring British skaters who concluded the first half of their New Zealand tour at Gisborne last night, arrived In Picton today. Tonight they were guests of the Amateur Roller Skating Association of New Zealand at the national championships. The skaters have a tour-day rest period before continuing a further two weeks' exhibition tour.
Raymond Hayes, of Hastings, set a new record for the junior boys' half-mile speed championship, breaking the previous time by ninetenths of a second at Picton tonight. On the third night of the sixth national amateur roller skating championships being conducted by the Amateur Roller Skating Association of New Zealand. Hayes narrowly beat Colin Nimmo, of Picton, recording a time of 2min 3.lsec.
The junior pairs free-skating championship was postponed after one of the competitors was injured in an earlier event, and the final event, the senior men's quartermile speed championship was postponed because of rain. Results:—
