COACHING IN CANTERBURY
Gift Of £l5 To Help Plan
Pleasure in the performances of the Canterbury Plunket Shield team has prompted Mr T. J. Chamberlain to give £l5 towards the Canterbury Cricket Association’s three-year coaching plan. Mr Chamberlain wrote to the association and said that he had been watching shield cricket since the late twenties, and he could think of no finer display by a Canterbury side than the one against Auckland. “If this is the first instalment of results to be achieved from the coaching scheme, then the future in New Zealand’s major cricketing stronghold is assured,” he said. When the letter was read at a meeting of the association on Tuesday, the chairman (Mr J. T. Eltoft) said that Mr Chamberlain’s gesture was very heartening and truly worthy of being noted in the records.
Mr C. F. Collins said that he thought it was indicative of the spirit of cricket in Canterbury When the full effects of the coaching scheme were felt, the oublic would see the type of cricket which it saw in Canterbury’s first innings against Northern Districts.
