B. Hastings Scores Century

The opening match of the New Zealand colts tour began today in fine weather. Gosford won the toss and batted first on a firm wicket.

New Zealand had an early success when Paul, the right-hand medium pace Inswinger bowler, captured two wickets in his first over. After lunch the home side collapsed and was all out for 83. Paul, assisted by some good catching by Murray, England, and Hill, was the destroying agent. The highlight of the New Zealand innings was the fine form shown by B. Hastings. Scoring freely all round the wicket he compiled the first century of the tour His hundred came up in 115 minutes. Hastings and Kemp were associated In an unfinished partnership of 130 for the fifth wicket. At stumps New Zealand was 263 for the loss of four wickets Scores were:—

Gosford, first innings, 83 (J. Rogers 45; R. Paul seven for 23, M. Beban one for 20. J. Parsons two for 11).

New Zealand Colts, first innings, 264 for four (B. F. Hastings 135 not out, J. Kemp 47 not out, P. McGregor 30).
