SHORTAGE OF JOCKEYS
Apprentices Make Special Trip
Three Riccarton apprentice jockeys, B. S. Dodds, R. B. Taggart, and G. R. Baldwin, have made a special trip to the West Coast at the request of the stipendiary steward, to ride at the Westland Racing Club’s meeting at Hokitika today. The jockeys left early this morning on the rail-car. They will be replacements for P. J. Kempton and B. S. Finlayson, who were injnred in a fall in the Trial Stakes No. 1 at Kumara on Saturday. Kempton suffered rib injuries and Finlayson hurt a shoulder. Riders were short at Kumara on Saturday, and the stipendiary steward (Mr H. B. Lorigan) had to give permission for a Dobson miner to ride.
Rehandicaps For Wellington
(New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NTH., January 10. Rehandicaps for the first day of the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday are:— Camp Hack Handicap: Fairbanks, 61b to 8-7; Howsie, 51b to 8-6; Powerful, 61b to 8-5. Anniversary Handicap: Port Wine. 61b to 9-0.
