Ambitious Series Of Matches
(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, January 9. The Football Association has planned an ambitious soccer tour of New Zealand and Asia next year, the “Star” reported tonight. Negotiations for the tour, expected to last about 10 weeks, are going on between the F.A. and the countries concerned, the newspaper said The most important matches will be played in New Zealand. "Details have not been settled, but It is hoped to arrange this tour for the end of next season,” the ‘‘Star’’ quoted an F.A. official as saying. Among the places under consideration for inclusion in the tour are Hong Kong. Malaya, Singapore and Burma. A match in the Philippines is also mooted, the newspaper said. Top-class amateurs will be included in the tour party, under a policy adopted in previous tours of the West Indies, in 1955. and Nigeria and Ghana, in 1958.
The inclusion of a good percentage of amateur players would help to cut down on heavy expenses.
