PLANE CAUGHT BY WIND

Propeller Broken At Ardmore

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 10.

The propeller of an Auster aircraft from the Middle Districts’ Aero Club was broken when it was caught in a cross-wind and ran into a ditch after the New Zealand Grand Prix at Ardmore on Saturday. The pilot was Mr N. Mangin, engine driver, of Palmerston North, who is an honorary instructor for the club. He and his three passengers were unhurt. The aircraft was one of 17 from all over the North Island which landed at Ardmore with passengers for the motor racing. The aircraft was taxi-ing down the 1600 ft grass landing strip alongside the back straight when it was caught in a cross-wind. It Slewed around and the undercarriage dropped into a ditch bordering the strip.
