Russia Greets Australia

(New Zealand Press Association) LONDON, December 27. The re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Australia and the Soviet Union earlier this year was an important step towards ending the cold war, a Christmas greeting broadcast to Australia made over Moscow Radio said yesterday. The message said the Russian people were pleased about this and it reflected an improved atmosphere in world affairs. The commentator said: “I think a merry Christmas is an especially appropriate term this year. The prospects of peace on earth, goodwill to all mankind being transformed into reality have not been as bright for a long time. “The year which has passed since last Christmas has been especially rich in events in which all who believe in peace and human progress can rejoice.”
