OUTSIDER WINS
Bright Ensign At Winton (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, December 28. Bright Ensign, one of the outsiders of the field, won the Winton Trotting Club Handicap, the main event and first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Winton Trotting Club’s summer meeting today. Bright Ensign made the running over the last mile and was too good for the others in a race which developed into a sprint home. The second leg, the President's Handicap was won by Tonty’s Pride, the combination returning £229 0s 6d for £l. An on-course double was won by Game Fighter and Autumn Folly. This paid £47 10s for £l. The club staged a most successful meeting, which was held in fine weather and on a fast track. Messenger’s novice win in 3min 18 3-ssec was the fastest put up in a maiden race in Southland. The totalisator turnover was £36,045 10s, compared with £29,923 10s last year, an increase of £6122.
