Win For Ma Cherie In Awapuni Double

(Aew Zeaiana Press Association/

PALMERSTON NTH., Dec. 28. The weather was fine and the track fast for the final day of the Manawatu Racing Club’s meeting at Awapuni today. The T.A.B. double of Ma Cherie and Port Wine paid £326 12s for £l. The on-course double—The Bandit and Girvan—paid £36 15s for £l. The totalisator handled £108,754, as against £97,422 10s last year, an increase of £11,331 10s. The total for the three days was £335,833, compared with £310,426 last year, an increase of £25.457. An inquiry was held into alleged interference by Extra Dry (B. P. Wood) to Parlez (C. H. Mackie) in the last furlong of the Nursery Handicap. After hearing the evidence of the stipendiary steward. Wood, and C. H. Mackie, and from their own observations. the committee found that interference did occur as alleged and decided that the placing? be altered and that Parlez be placed third and Extra Dry fourth A charge brought by the stipendiary steward under Rule 289 against Wood of causing interference, was dismissed The committee considered that on the evidence and from their own observations the interference which occurred was in no way due to the fault of Wood. Mr G. H. Tyree, rider of Waikakaho was charged under Rule 289 with careless riding causing interference to Laanos (J T. Anderson) just short of the winning post in the second division of the Trial Plate. After hearing the evidence of the stipendiary steward, J. T.
