PHONE TAPPING IN U.K.

Allegations Of Further Case (N.Z. Press Association—CopyriaM) LONDON, December 17. Another case of police listen-ing-in to a telephone call was alleged during evidence in a conspiracy case at Marylebone Court today, the “Star” reported. This system of detection has been the cause of much controversy and last Week provoked questions in the House of Commons.

Today’s evidence was given in a case in which two driving examiners and two driving instructors were accused of conspiring to obtain money from learner drivers who wanted to ensure a pass.

A witness said he telephoned one of the instructors from Brixton police station with a constable noting what was said. Next day he returned to the police station and made another call to the instructor with the police lis-tening-in. The instructor did not know the conversation was being tapped.

The witness said he later obtained £l5 from the police and after giving it to his instructor was told he had passed the test. The hearing was adjourned.
