Apprentice Wins International

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) BRISBANE, December 19. The French jockey Freddy Palmer was beaten out of first place in the International Stakes at Doomben today by local apprentice, D. Ferris. Gulf Boy, which started at 12/1 with Ferris on, sustained a brilliant run from the three furlongs post to get to. the front about 40 yards from -the winning post, to win by threequarters of a length from Duchesne, ridden by Palmer. The Japanese jockey, Y. Nohira. on Torrock, was third, and M. Lee. of Malaya, was fourth on Theodric. The other visiting jockeys. Geoffrey Lewis (Britain) and J. Koogeert (Belgium), were eighth and last, respectively.
