Woman Appointed Court Registrar

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 17. For the first time in New Zealand a woman has been appointed full-time Registrar of a Magistrate’s Court. The Public Service Commission today announced the appointment of Miss E. J. Andrews, of Invercargill, as Registrar of the Magistrate’s Court, at Gore.. Miss Andrews has been on the staff of the Invercargill Court since February, 1947. Under the Magistrate’s Court Act, 1947, the Registrar is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Court, records births and deaths, performs marriages as well as other administrative duties. Miss Andrews will also be Registrar of the Mining Court.
