Canterbury Unionists Asked To Help

Canterbury unionists are being asked to help pay libel damages awarded against the president of the Federation of Labour (Mr F. P. Walsh) and other members of the labour movement.

The secretary of the Canterbury district trades council of the federation (Mr C. R. Thomas) said in a supplied statement, yesterday that the following resolution had been passed at the monthly meeting of the council this week: “This council endorses the appeal of the national executive of the New Zealand Federation of Labour for funds to assist the Wellington Trades Council, and recommends to affiliations that they give financial support to the appeal to meet the costs incurred in the recent libel actions Neary v. Walsh and others and. Solomon v. Walsh and expresses full confidence in the executive of the New Zealand Federation of Labour.”
