INCREASE IN MEAT LEVY

The Meat Board’s intention of increasing its levy (now .05d ger pound) to bririg it up to .09d per pound in four years, was reported to the November meeting of the Dominion meat and wool produce section council, according to the Federated Farmers’ journal, “Straight Furrow.” The board, in view of prospective calls on its reserves, did not intend to advance further funds for ancillary purposes, such as freezing works, and would reserve the balance of about £32m for support operations. The board had also decided to peg the amount of guarantee to each of the producer co-operatives at the present level.
