NOXIOUS WEED AT LINCOLN
Previously Unknown In Canterbury
A weed previously unknown in Canterbury has been found growing on the banks of a stream on a property at Lincoln. This was reported by the field supervisor of the Malvern, Paparua, Springs and Halswell counties (Mr F. E. Hoskens) to the Halswell County Council at its monthly meeting last evening. The weed had been identified as Red Sweet Grass, also known as Poa Aquatica, common in the lower reaches of the Waikato, but previously unknown in Canterbury, he said. “It is a stout reed-like perennial grass with creeping rhizomes,” said Mr Hoskens. “It is regarded as a nuisance because it blocks drains."
