WELLINGTON, Dec. 13. After being forced wide in making ground from twelfth at the halfmile, the light-weight, Elsted, finished strongly to win by half a length from Equal Terms in the Hone McMillan Memorial Handicap, the main event and first leg of the T.A.B. Double, at the Otaki Maori Racing Club's summer meeting on Saturday. Ridden by L. K. Tinsley, Elsted raced too well over the last stages for Equal Terms, which was having his first start over a middle distance. Equal Terms was well back early and did well to finish second after being awkwardly placed near the turn. The favourite. Picaroon,, was third, and another light-weight, Tilly Light, which could not get a clear run in the straight, was fourth. The second leg was the Huia Handicap. and this event lost a great deal of interest with the scratching of Donna Bella on Saturday morning. Reefer, the third favourite each way, ran on well from third at the turn to win by a length from Ma Cherie. Supreme Justice was three-quarters of a length away third. Elsted and Reefer paid a double dividend of £l4l 5s 6d for £l. The weather was overcast and the track soft. There was a good attendance. The totalisator on-course handled £62,535; compared with £66,569 10s last year, a decrease of £4034 10s. Results: TARARUA HACK HURDLES, Of £325; one mile and threequarters . 1/1 AIRFIELD (1) 9-12 B.
