SPECTACULAR WIN AT SYDNEY

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright/ SYDNEY, December 13. A Sydney oarsman had a spectacular win in the New South Wales sculling championship yesterday after hitting a bridge near the finish. Officials described the race as the most sensational ever in a State title event

lan Tutty, of the Haberfield club, won by three feet and so will represent New South Wales in the Australian championships in Tasmania next April. Tutty was leading the field by several lengths as he approached the bridge, about 150 yards from the end of the 2000-metre race. He was aiming for a gap betwer? two pylons when a breeze forced him across the river, and he ran into the pylon.

His shell stopped completely, and he had to ship his blade and force his boat away from the pylon before he could begin to row again.

When he restarted he was in third place, but he put in one of the finest finishing bursts ever seen in a championship sculling race, to pass his opposition in 20 strokes.
